"don't drive a car then" sure! but they're doing this with EVERYTHING. ebikes, phones, kitchen appliances, if it can have a chip in it, they'll pull the se shit, and circumvent right-to-repair laws by making parts available, but ruinously expensive to buy

This already happens with white goods. The controller boards in a lot of eg dishwashers is about 70-80% of the cost of a new dishwasher if it was bought new. Basically means professional repairs don't happen outside of warranty repairs, and there's not much benefit to doing those repairs yourself.

this is why I want things to have open, documented technical standards so aftermarket repairs are plug-and-play and cheap
