The number of civil servants is about the same today as it was in 1980. The population of the U.S. has increased ~49% since 1980. If anything, there should be more Feds to serve the needs of the increased population. Dismantling government only makes America weak—especially the Intel Community.

What you are saying is republicans have been very good at appropriating needed funds and programs for their districts to secure their reelections all while decrying the expansion of the nation-state. I wonder how removing federal funds flowing to their districts is going to feel.

This is why I laugh when I hear people say "call your representative" What the hell are they going to do for me other than laugh and say something trite like "cry more"? Deep red areas are stiffed since the dems can't make compelling arguments to convince the simples that they can help them.

VA and MD don't end up on this list? Or is this list just so overwelmed by military numbers? Might be an interesting list to see government pensions on the list also. Always surprised how conservative those on especially military pensions or military disability tend to be.

I was looking at these data earlier today. Goes along with conservative states generally being more reliant on federal programs, something you'd think would be brought up more often in political rhetoric. Will be interesting reality check for Republicans to get what they've publicly wished for.

What does "with the largest proportion of federal workers" actually mean? Does it mean that of the total workforce in that district, federal workers make up the largest proportion? Or does it mean that, by proportion of federal workforce, among congressional districts, those districts have the most?

Kinda surprised Colorado, Virginia, and Maryland are not there. Lots of NOAA and USGS facilities are there
