I've said on this chat multiple times, EVERYTHING I write, I write for 13- and 17-year-old me. Obviously, having a 13-year-old son makes me ALWAYS think about them as an audience. #kidlitchat 
I'm my first reader. If the story doesn't excite me, I won't write it. If it excites me, I believe it will excite somebody else. But I don't write it for a specific person
I do have a manuscript inspired by somebody important to me, but it's not written with him in mind as a reader. #kidlitchat For sure. I'm going to spending more time with this story than the reader is. I NEED to be excited about what I'm writing. #kidlitchat
