I mean, maybe that’s the point - if there is a bunch of rubes looking at NVIDIA prices and thinking of GPUs as an asset that will appreciate instead of a consumable that will be gone or worthless in 5 years. Are there people stupid enough to take that deal?

The days of computer hardware becoming outdated after 3-5 years are over for the most part, but I just don’t know long the GPUs will last before breaking on average. Seems like it’s complicated.

Maybe for computer hardware generally but it is absolutely still true for these specific chips, probably more like 1-3 years actually.

Consumers tend to kill theirs more easily because they're not being paid to obsessively maintain them in good working order. Still not going to make them appreciate in value tho. People will buy second-hand server hardware, but not at retail price.
