I think it's technically an advancement on Pascal's Wager.
In the base form of Pascal's Wager, you're confronted with 'If God exists, obeying his will will ensure I gain paradise, and don't suffer hell; if God doesn't exist, obeying his will costs me little; Therefore, I should obey God's will."
