BELOW that surface, however, is a soft, not very dense rock with striations - those are deposits, or 'bands' of different minerals which do not 'fuse' together well with the calcite, so that band forms a weak point where the 'band' (clays, calcium oxide, etc.) connects layers of calcite (marble) 3/x

These deposits or bands are what give marble those pretty streaks, it's why marble is marble. But it is NOT a dense, durable stone for 3d applications In xyz-axis the Y (surface) would be the only durable, dense axis. Anything from other directions puts stress on the weak portions of the stone. 4/x

This is why you'll see marble floors that are thousands of years old, but never see an unsupported/unframed marble countertop 100 years old without damage. Essentially - bumping the side of it can bust a chunk off. So no, you ignorant fuck, it hasn't been 'done or seen before'.🖕 </StoneNerd>
