I start my classes this week with this image, the life-size gravestone of Quintus Artulus, a 4YO miner from ~100 CE Roman Spain, depicted with his mining tools. How did a poor child get a big monument? We don't know for sure, but probably b/c he was a member of a funerary society - a proto-union.
