This is not just me gatekeeping or doing a "UX vs UI" meme - changing user behavior is literally the job, and if you are not doing it with intention, then you are not pulling your weight on the team. This is why I don't like "UX without research is decoration" - even decoration changes behavior!

"Behavior change" is often framed as underhanded algoritmic nudging and deceptive patterns, but not all UX is e-commerce or socials. Even in Enterprise where the product is already paid for, you want to change behavior (make the right thing easier and the wrong thing harder).

Junior UX designers often conceive of the user journey as inevitable destiny and it's just never the case. Users fall off the user journey all the time. Often deliberately, because you frustrated them and they're going to go back to emailing spreadsheets back and forth.
