When non-practitioners hear "critique" they parse "criticism." Criticism has a role to play *with professional critics* but most of the time criticism amounts to one of two things: - I don't like it - It's not how I would do it And frankly that feedback is worth fuck all.

The key part of the argument is that feedback loops are critical for outputs that are fit-for-purpose. In STEM tasks, the feedback loop *can* function entirely between you and your experiment, where you try something and it burns off your eyebrows and you go "oh no." But that's not the only loop.

Quite a few loops are going to involve something that didn't explode, and then people who asked for the thing look at it and say "this doesn't match what was asked for." This is commonly, but inaccurately, known as requirements. If your thing compiles but doesn't meet the requirements, it fails.
