But all that excess supply of bullshit needs a purpose! And that's why AI is so hyped up - the hype is the outlet for the hyperscaled bullshit that high performing bullshitters are generating. Using AI to bullshit about AI is seen as innovative (because it's AI, and AI use cases are hard to find).

It also has the side effect of making the bullshitter the hero of the story. They are no longer creating busy work - they are the Innovators and you will be Left Behind (in some kind of rapture situation? more on that elsewhere, I think). And so we get AI for AI's sake, rather than for a purpose.

This is the flywheel that AI has built up - an alliance between big tech that needs AI to be the next hyper growth market, because they are completely out of ideas, and unproductive bullshitters who can paper over their own detriment to society by pretending that using a chatbot makes you hot shit.
