Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 18/11/2024If the golden real estate of their landing page or press release says "AI" or "LLM" anywhere, it's probably a grift. If they only admit, reluctantly, that they use AI somewhere deep inside the "methodology" section, there's hope for them yet. 2482
Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 18/11/2024There are a lot more nuances (for example AI and machine learning is more than just LLMs, and small models that aren't measured in server space square footage are useful for specific tasks) but this heuristic will get you 90% of the way there. 2230
Justin Marshall @jmarshallbklyn.bsky.social · 18/11/2024I think this is a really good take. I struggled with the grift part a bit, but critical thinking points to what you’re saying. Certainly a lack of substance in the end product experience/value. 010
Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 18/11/2024It's a marketing truism that you get one chance to pitch your product's value to a customer. If that pitch is "look at this technology we're using" then you're face to face with some major snake oil, no doubt about it. 0395
