It's just some old-timey concoction made of carbonated water, molasses & ginger(& maybe pinch of vanilla)
Though most current US Rootbeers do not taste like they used to. Used to be sweeter & thicker with a slight almost vanilla ice cream taste to it, they might've cheaped out on the ingredients.
