I liked about half the season, but the bits I didn't like, I really didn't like. I genuinely do not mind if they want to do a noir, or a fairytale, it's just that they were done so badly that they neither worked as the genre or as Star Trek. It's all execution.

Absolutely. I was so irritated by the Muppets in Space episode. Like, fine, do what you want, but have the jokes land and have the performances zing. I admire the ambition and the way they're committed to stand-alone storytelling, but too many of those "quirky" episodes killed the season.

The Muppet one is so weird. I cannot believe the "it was all a dream" ending wasn't a last- minute reshoot because there was nothing to indicate that before. Just bring me along. Make me care. Ideas are plentiful, but making them work with both your characters and setting is hard.
