I cannot stress enough that libraries need to be defended. Public. Academic. School. Fight for them. USE them & make it known that you're using them. As a librarian who lost the fight at their institution & was forced to toss 120,000 books because "no one reads books anymore," I am begging you.

As a book lover and author that pisses me off, people don't read? Then how come book stores still make a huge sum on their physical copies not just their kindle/eBook copies. people are shameful.

We go weekly but it's gotten so hard because they have reduced library hours down so badly. I remember as a teen I'd be at the library late at night and now it's closed before we could have dinner and head over after work/school. Weekends some close as early as 1 pm Sat and closed Sun...

It's frustrating to see students come in looking for the library & visibly watch as disappointment settles over their features. I've heard their comments about how it isn't even a library. And no, a library is not JUST the books, it's so much more, but they are a part of it. They are relevant.

The libraries in my city are all heavily used, but what you describe still scares me as I doubt any of our politicians have set foot in one since their youth (I also doubt they read any books, but that’s a subject for another time). So yes, we must vigorously defend public libraries!

I truly don't understand why people have given up on books. Physical items will always be better than an online version, hence why I don't really have a kindle. Because physical books are just more enjoyable

I would like to remind everyone that the 3rd Reich did not come for the Jewish people first. They came for the LGBTQ community that existed back then. 20,000 volumes of knowledge at the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft. We’re still trying to reclaim that knowledge.

The county commissioners here in Josephine County, Oregon, have basically evicted my county's library. They voted unanimously to terminate the library's lease with 30 days' notice (the lease is through December 2025). Petty? Foolish? Malicious? All of the above? #library
