Journal Entry of a Pawn #teefwrites #writing #Dragon'sDogma2 #DD2

A screenshot from Capcom's Dragon's Dogma 2, of two characters, a knight (Pawn, left) and a sorcerer (Arisen, right), standing in a mountainside field looking out across the landscape.

Writing exerpt 1/2. "A few torn pages from a journal. Though the writing is complete, crafted by a steady hand, the paper seems to have been crumpled and discarded.

Tis not my place to question the word of my master. Nor have they ever given me reason to. They are good to me. Kind and soft in their words. Gentle in their touch. Their pockets would be selflessly emptied to spare even a copper for any who might be in need of it, and not a day spent by their side has passed where I have been left wanting.

But I worry for them.

I fear our journey has begun to wear upon them heavily, and though Master assures me that they are of sound mind and good health, they remember naught of our last evening spent at camp. I swear what I witnessed that night was no conjuring of this simple pawn’s imagination.

Twas late. Long since had we retired to our bedrolls when I was roused from my sleep by a weight upon me. Too real to be a mere dream, I opened my eyes with a start, and it was them. It was my master."

Writing excerpt 2/2. "I could see little else than their pale form atop me in an unexpected state of undress. They were as beautiful as moonglow.

I was terrified.

I tried to move, but felt as if every limb and muscle within had turned to stone. I tried to speak, but no words reached my weathered lips. All the while their eyes pierced through the pitch like a sure blade.

Watching me.

I stared back, stricken, until I heard my master speak softly in a language I’ve not heard before. I was plunged into senselessness.

I awoke the next morning to Master preparing breakfast, greeting me with their usual mirth. My apparent confusion concerned them, but I dismissed their worries with haste, and have spoken naught of what I had beheld.

I ought not doubt the master’s word, but I have ne’er more preferred the company of wolves and monsters.”
