Sync vs. async in JavaScript is quite a hassle especially if you are writing APIs to be used by others. There are tools (*) that let you write “universal” code but even there, you can’t call async code within sync code. (*) github.com/quansync-dev...

How often is this a problem in practice? Each time I ran into this I was able to change the api to avoid the issue. Granted, I'm not often writing library code

Rare, but if it occurs, it’s bad—e.g., I’m writing a sync Markdown parser: Some highlighting libraries work asynchronously and therefore can’t be used. I like what Go does with goroutines (If I understand them correctly): They are lightweight and you can synchronously pause execution.
