The Mata Nui Online Game II likewise drafted an elaborate belief system for the Matoran. Each of the Three Virtues was split into Principles, adding up to a total of six. The six original Rahkshi powers were the antithesis of each Principle, making them metaphorically important.

The Toa practicing each Principle in accordance with their village's flagship Virtue could have fed into the developing Rahkshi, meaning that the Rahkshi's powers originated as the inverse of the Toa's good deeds, rather than as Makuta's own powers that he bestowed upon them.

Mask of Light even blatantly spells this out in two scenes when Makuta contrasts the powers of his six Rahkshi with the Three Virtues. The Rahkshi in the film are born out of cocoon-like tubes, similar to the early concept, meaning they have been germinating there and were not recently created.
