Mask of Light's poster shows Takanuva's movie design but the mask in the back is in its toy design. The "movie vs. toy" debate is still a thing in the fandom. Lots of fans reject the cartoony film designs with their rubbery masks, moving mouths, fingers and exposed muscles.

Creative Capers directors Terry Shakespeare and David Molina came from an animator background, having worked on Don Bluth films. Disliking the rigid limitations of the toys, their first drastic decision was to make the characters expressive like Bluth characters, with movable masks and actual hands.

I don't hate the moving masks like many do, but I only view the films as an "offshoot" of Bionicle with their own quirks and rules. It would've been interesting but way too experimental to make a movie where every character is constantly making :O faces. Not saying it couldn't work.
