I always get uncomfortable when people thank me for my service for this exact reason. I didn't protect anything other than the almighty dollar. And what was the reward? A broken body and a group of dead friends. I don't want to be thanked, I don't deserve it.

Appreciating the sacrifices they made and appreciating what they fought for are two very different things. I can appreciate that they risked their lives, but it is objective fact that they risked their lives for nothing of any value to anyone but the oligarchs.
