Hot take about Kansas politics incoming.

My husband, @colinmcroberts.bsky.social , is running in KS-01 to unseat Tracey Mann, the Republican incumbent. Yesterday his primary opponent sneered at him for not quitting his teaching job to run the campaign full time.

A photo of a blond woman in a black jacket sitting at a conference table. The caption reads "Since I declared my candidacy in January, I have committed to running this race full-time. This is a tough race in a HUGE congressional district (the 14th largest, out of all 435). I firmly believe the people who nominate the Democratic challenger to Tracey Mann deserve a candidate who will not treat campaigning like a side hustle. Today we learned that my primary challenger, Colin McRoberts, is teaching Monday through Thursday at the KU Lawrence campus for the Fall semester. Although I have said since Day One that Colin would be a much better congressman than Tracey Mann, I'm concerned that our chances of beating Mann are severely diminished if the challenger is a part-time candidate."

My hot take: Let's not make fun of people who can't afford to quit their jobs to become full-time politicians. Having regular people (and teachers!) run for office is Good, Actually.
