6/26 We saw that distinction during the 2023/24 Red Sea crisis. Ships did not disappear when operators diverted around Africa. They sailed farther, burned more fuel, occupied the fleet for longer and disrupted schedules and prices thousands of miles away from the attacks. #SupplyChains

7/26 The analysis then moves south through the Red Sea to Yanbu. Saudi Arabia can not currently move oil now across the country by pipeline and avoid Hormuz. In any case, oil arriving at a Red Sea terminal has not reached its buyer, particularly when the intended customer is in Asia.

8/26 For a European buyer, a tanker may sail north from Yanbu through Suez. For an Asian buyer, the direct route runs south through Bab al-Mandeb, so fixing the pipeline does not remove the maritime danger. It changes where the danger, delay and additional cost are encountered by the vessel.
