3/7 Iranian reporting has added a shipboard fire and claims about the crew. Another report names the Saudi VLCC CEDAR. Those details are not in the UKMTO warning and have not been independently authenticated. CEDAR should not yet be identified as the tanker that was struck.

4/7 This incident matters because the southern route was presented as the safer alternative to the mined IMO Traffic Separation Scheme. It has instead become the main concentration point for projectile attacks against ships passing the Musandam Peninsula.
