2/3 We don't need to secure merchant supply lines in the main, without global support UN / NATO resolutions due to globalisation. So building up our capability makes sense - if it is linked to NATO or UN allies. If the USA is not a good ally - we wait for a "sane USA" president and then uncouple.

3/3 This even works for Hormuz right now. We are trying to sort out a UN resolution instead of a NATO one to circumvent USA involvement. This we can continue to do - with some enhanced spending but not much - and work with UN allies moving forward until we can assess the USA connections.
