Michael Hobbes @michaelhobbes.bsky.social · 13/02/2024This does seem like a real issue, workers becoming more reluctant to test if they know they'll miss work for up to two weeks. But surely the solution to that is paid sick leave! If anything we should be massively increasing access to tests to monitor outbreaks. 1546553
Michael Hobbes @michaelhobbes.bsky.social · 13/02/2024This is such a bizarre rationale. If people aren't following public health agency recommendations, then surely the solution is to try to change behavior, not change the recommendations! If anything the CDC should double down on what the science tells us about infectiousness. bsky.app/profile/toms...Tom Scocca@tomscocca.bsky.socialHave you considered, on like multiple levels, the benefits of just shutting the fuck up? 623336
ariel gordon @arielgordon.bsky.social · 13/02/2024I feel like the useful thing for a public health educator to point out is that without buy-in from leaders and policy change (paid sick leave), public health messaging alone isn't going to make much of a shift. 010
Until All of Us Are Free @solidarity5ever.bsky.social · 13/02/2024They're facilitating the bad behaviors! Venues and employers will use these bullshit guidelines to justify forcing employees into work sick or not taking any health measures when serving the public. 020
Jeremy @bluelightj.fightins.online · 13/02/2024The people are always going to drink the shit water, regardless of messaging. Why do we even need a fence around Shit Water Pond? 020
Michael Hobbes @michaelhobbes.bsky.social · 13/02/2024I think it's fair to point out that this change is unlikely to have much of a negative effect on hospitalizations and deaths because so few people have sick leave or test in the first place, but then why change the recommendations at all? 51322

Jesse Dukes @curiousdukes.bsky.social · 13/02/2024I think many public health officials feel like they've been bullied into submission. It's like if Chief Brody in JAWS were to say "Ok, well can we at least close the darn beaches for an hour at sunset?" 130
