This image showcases the spiral galaxy M101, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, as captured by the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) on the James Webb Space Telescope. The galaxy's intricate spiral arms, filled with countless stars and dust lanes, are prominent in the image. The core of M101 appears bright and compact, surrounded by a halo of fainter stars and gas. The image reveals a wealth of detail, including individual star clusters and regions of active star formation. This NIRCam view provides astronomers with valuable insights into the structure and evolution of spiral galaxies like M101.
