A short report on the Feminist and Human Rights repercussions of the “Report of the Special Rapporteur on
violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences, by Reem Alsalem” as evident by the language

ABLEISM
No nuance statements are used here, “they are” is deliberately used instead of the
factual distinction, ‘they could be’. It is ableist and discriminatory. This is the assumption
and presumption of intellectual incompetence of autistic and other neuro-diverse children
and adults. This is an attack to deny their right to body autonomy and access to medical
care by dismissal of their ability to consent, and removal of the equal right give or deny
their informed consent by the refusal of not only allowing but ensuring they be assessed
and treated as individuals on a case by case basis. It erases the voice and rights of
those society considers “lesser than” in its offensive belief it knows what is in others
“best interests”, as if an ostrich can ever know what it is like to be a fish.
SEXISM & NATALISM
The measure of harm has been set upon a benchmark of presumed cisgender identity
and attributes the worth of those assigned female at birth to their reproductive ability
and assumed reproductive goals. This is an act of legislative violence against girls and
women by imposing a predetermination of motherhood. It has no sense of self
awareness and irony that this document is entirely based upon maintaining the
“stereotyped roles” it proclaims to aim to protect children from.
HOMOPHOBIA
Alsalem’s document is not about protecting women or children, it recycles decades old
talking points that paints a rigid and sexist binary of heteronormative gender expressions
and behaviours (the “stereotyped roles”) as healthy and protective...

five years the rise in hostility to trans and nonbinary people has not lessened the rates of
violence against women and girls, violence against both groups has risen sharply because
they are directly linked. The phrase “consent would be meaningless for both adults and
children” betrays the truth that the end result and goal of transphobic reports and legislation
is always to deny the rights and agency of those who experience politicised prejudice
through fear and othering, especially “adult human females” through use of a “bogeyman”.

The original document's text: "There is also a significant co-occurrence of what is known as gender dysphoria or
incongruence and autism spectrum disorder diagnoses.47 Research suggests that the odds of
being diagnosed with gender or bodily dysphoria are three times higher for children and
adolescents with an autism spectrum diagnosis compared with those without, with girls
particularly affected.48 They are particularly vulnerable to the socially contagious stereotyped
roles as a coping strategy, placing them at risk of erroneously adopting stereotypes as their
core identity while experiencing dissociation from their sexed bodies. The long-lasting and
harmful consequences of social and medical transitioning of children, including girls, are
being increasingly documented. They include: persistence or intensification of psychological
distress; persistence of body dissatisfaction; infertility, early onset of the menopause and an
increase in the risk of osteoporosis; sexual dysfunction; and loss of the ability to breastfeed
in cases of breast mastectomy (to mention a few). That has rightly led several countries, such
as Brazil, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom to change course and
restrict children’s access to puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery on sexual and
