I've read that manuals have smaller engines/smaller overall size, cheaper to maintain/repair, more fuel efficient, once better able to navigate our roads, but automatics have improved and newer models can change gears more efficiently; more folks are making the switch. Technically you could make an EV with gears, but it's pointless because electric motors can deliver their torque over a vastly wider range of RPMs. 110
