In the last... ~week or two... much commentary (including from NASA leadership) about why we are fetishizing the Lunar south pole has started shifting from in situ resources to "training ground for Mars." The argument has not been clearly articulated; on its face, it is barely more credible.
I view as willful misinformation any article that talks about Lunar ice as an in situ resource without including the following caveats.
1. If it exists.
2. In quantities that matter.
3. In a place that we can get at.
4. For less than it costs to bring water along.
