Jared Isaacman recently posted a video on Twitter that included these slides. He continues to describe money invested in MSR as "lost" or "wasted." If investments in MSR are "wasted," then he must prepare to personally own the "waste" of every project that doesn't pan out on his watch, too.

If NASA is going to attempt to "do the nearly impossible" (which is Jared's own framing), then a lot of projects will not ultimately work out. If the people who supported those projects are retroactively punished for "wasting" money, then people will no longer attempt to do difficult things.

MSR is nearly impossible. Any version is complicated, difficult, and expensive. The community agreed on the costs we were willing to bear for MSR and, when expected to exceed that, the project was cancelled. The funds spent were _invested_ in learning how to do MSR and other hard things.
