🪸 Known as the “Amazon of the Seas,” the #CoralTriangle is a critical marine biodiversity hotspot. As countries in Southeast Asia invest in liquified natural gas as a “clean” shipping fuel, new shipping routes and terminals pose a great pollution risk in this already-threatened region.
Using Cerulean & working with @earth-insight.org, we detected 793 oil slicks in the Coral Triangle from 2020 to 2024, covering an area of over 24,000 square kilometers. A resulting report, with support from CEED Philippines & Say No to LNG, explores the threats of oil & gas expansion in the region.
