My team makes sure that our policymakers have the science and evidence they need to make informed policy decisions. The FSA was founded after a bunch of food safety scares in the late 90s (BSE being the best-known), so we have a commitment to openness and transparency.

Our most business-critical function is to produce incident risk assessments: whenever we hear about an issue affecting food safety, if the response is not obvious already we provide a rapid RA to ensure the response is proportionate. These often contain sensitive info so are not published.
