In recent months, some folks have had trouble figuring out how to pronounce my last name, which is entirely understandable!! Luckily I share this name with Japan's most famous condom brand, so please enjoy this famous actor saying it just a few seconds in www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBpp...

For English-First Language speakers, you can go way softer on the consonant enunciation than Adrian Pang does here and I wouldn't mind! Getting the right vowel sounds matters more for me when someone is pronouncing my name in English!

English brain wants to say “ahka-moe-toe” instead of “ohka-moe-toe” Weird how language works. I’m glad I know better now!

Also, now that you know how to pronounce Okamoto, you can confidently pronounce the Oka- and -moto of a plethora of Japanese surnames. Okamura? Okada? Yoshioka? Yamamoto? YOU GOT THIS!!
