As I commented there about the idea it’s just a mindless action movie: it’s a VERY MINDFUL action movie. Also, the mad scientists clearly escaped from a Mike Mignola comic. Hellboy and BPRD are full of pairs of minor characters, one doing exposition, the other saying “It’s true” every so often.
