How high must the numbers climb before we acknowledge that we have reached a crisis point? It’s unconscionable to think that 17,517 people are living in emergency accommodation in Ireland in 2026. These latest figures mark a staggering increase of 2,099 in emergency accommodation since March 2025.

Each month we see the numbers increase and there are still no signs of them reversing. The record numbers of people without housing demand a crisis-level response. We need to see action on prevention and coordinated action across the entire government. This cannot be left to a single department.
