digitalfurball.bsky.social @digitalfurball.bsky.social · 03/09/2026It is confusing that Heathrow has reduced, could it be the number of Taxis and shuttle busses etc… ? I doubt aeroplane emissions have changed that much 170
Matt “We’ve Talked About This” Ringel @ringel.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Commercial airplane CO2/km (and NOx) has gone down significantly (15-ish%) in the past 10 years with new more fuel-efficient aircraft rotating in, etc. but air traffic has also risen overall so it should be a wash, BUT an airport already at capacity (ie. LHR) could see reduced emissions/pollution. 4340
Mitchell Stirling @mitchellst.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Heathrow has grown its traffic by 24% since 2007, with a 0.5% increase in movements, so the direction of travel has certainly been driven by efficiencies that have reduced aircraft emissions. 010
Crafty Butcher @crafty-butcher.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I can't find numbers but things like the Elizabeth Line might have also brought down the number of people driving to the airport. 080
Timlagor @timlagor.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I was thinking it might also have industrial activity in the area -even a power plant I don't know about 000
hahlen.bsky.social @hahlen.bsky.social · 03/09/2026There are a LOT of heavy vehicles at an airport (fuel trucks, busses, catering trucks, baggage vehicles, lorries transporting air freight, tugs, waste disposal trucks, etc) that may all have been dirty diesels 10 years ago and are much cleaner now 2260
