This is in regards to the falsehood—pushed by Koch-funded FAI and echoed by Peter Thiel, much of Silicon Valley, and Derek Thompson—that we are in a period of science stagnation. It’s totally wrong and it is being used to destroy NIH to privatize government.

This is in fact the situation. Thiel and his weak-minded tech VC friends haven’t made money on investments that were not overhyped borderline-frauds since 2010. (Crypto and AI were what they pivoted to.) Their field has stagnated. Life science is incredibly dynamic bsky.app/profile/pyrr...

I mean maybe the lack of imagination by these generational wealth no-nothings is impacting their little domains in computer science as they act like little business dictators, but the rest of STEM is hot and jumping.

I worked for 20+ years in law firms supporting biotech. Almost all biotech startups fail to develop a product. That's how the system works--they try something, develop it, test it, and hope it performs as expected. The only constant in biotech are the failed serial CEO's who take the money and run.

i've reviewed federal grants for businesses, specific to AI.. the joke reviewers make is that companies just creates a software wrapper around ChatGPT, which are hardly innovative.
