I guess we're gonna have to refight all those 1990s battles over obnoxious freeware license terms all over again, including old-BSD style attribution clauses, commercial use restrictions, etc.

Re: Kimi K3 weight release. Looks like this is a "weights available" release. This is not an "open weights" release. The license restricts commercial usage. Unlikely we will see many (any?) other provider hosting that model. Totally missed that. huggingface.co/moonshotai/K...

I am not interested in an ideological war. The word "open" gets abused enough already, now it also seems to also include "free to look at, but not use for anything serious".

Yes, those provider made deals. Some even say that this is still "open weights", but I think that goes against anything that a pluralistic "open" term stands for. That is more "demo" than "open", when you have to buy a license and retain most rights.
