Many of the cultures in Areaer don't have surnames in the modern usage. The Valor Alliance is an example of an empire? confederation? where surnames (among city-folk, nobility and other wealthy /s emi-wealthy) classes is fairly common. Some families also have crests (though I have not designed any).

Do they take their surname from their father or do they have a different method? Do they believe in leaving a lasting legacy?
