merry christmas, i wrote a short mtdwh drabble for the holidays 🎄🫶🏾 with art i commissioned from @koousagi.bsky.social ! (pt.1) #btsfic #janiescribbles

This was the first year they really got to acknowledge, much less celebrate the holidays.

In the past, there'd been too much happening, but this year, things had been thankfully quiet. This year, they could just be.

And so, Yoongi had decided to go out on a limb and try celebrating Christmas this time around.

He'd given Jimin a call at the start of the week to get his opinion; questions like 'was it a good idea?' and 'did he think Hoseok would be receptive to something like that?' were his main concerns during their conversation, and in return, Jimin had dissolved into laughter and told him to go ahead with it.

Undeterred by the younger's amusement, Yoongi took the green light as the sign he'd needed. He'd been thinking it over before calling and figured that at the very least, Hoseok wouldn't hate the idea of celebrating Christmas, but he'd wanted a sounding board just in case.

Even though he'd only had a week to prepare, Yoongi still had the chance to go all out; the perks of being the leader of the biggest crime family in the city were plenty, and he was sure he could pull whatever strings needed to create a blowout party if he was so inclined.

However, it was his and Hoseok's first Christmas, and as it turned out, Yoongi didn't have any inclinations to do something so gaudy, so he'd scratched that idea.

Next he'd wondered about having a get together with just their friends; the seven of them gathered by a fire with drinks, putting up decorations on a christmas tree, exchanging gifts perhaps... but no, even that felt over the top.

He was no stranger to feeling selfish, so of course he recognized the feeling when it stirred in his chest as he thought about having to spend their first real Christmas with anyone other than each other.

And so, he'd narrowed all of the grandiose gestures flitting around in his mind to an overly simple two-step plan.

An overly simple two-step plan that hardly needed any string-pulling, and yet suddenly seemed so daunting.

But he'd committed to it, and the time had come, so there was no going back now:

That fateful Christmas eve, he stood at the foot of the stairs, and met Hoseok, who'd only just woken up and was heading downstairs, most likely in search of him.

"Oh, there you are; you weren't in bed and—" Hoseok paused, taking in Yoongi's appearance. "Hm? You're dressed already, are we going somewhere today?"

Heat prickled under the collar of the long coat Yoongi had snagged from the closet and rushed to put on once he'd heard Hoseok's footsteps from upstairs.

This was the most mortifying thing he'd done in a long time, Yoongi thought.

"Not-" he blew out a soft breath and tried again, taking in Hoseok's bedhead and half-awake expression. "We...aren't going anywhere," he clarified, well aware of the rising warmth creeping up his neck. "Just. I got you something, is all."

This time, Hoseok appeared more awake, curiosity taking precedence over everything else. "What-"

Yoongi thrust forward the giftbag he'd been hiding behind his back before Hoseok could say anything more. He wondered, with a strange and sudden sense of dismay if he should have wrapped the item instead, but it was too late now.

Hoseok had seen the festive bag, furrowed his brow, and cleared the remaining three steps he needed to be face to face with Yoongi.

As he took it from Yoongi, Yoongi began, "I know you must not think much about the holidays, and usually, neither do I, but this year I figured we could... give it a try on a small scale, so I got you-"

With a brief rustling sound, Hoseok dug the green cardigan out of the bag, eyes bright with warmth. "You got me a Christmas present."

Yoongi's cheeks flushed redder on their own accord when Hoseok's attention shifted from the sweater back to him. And so, huffing, Yoongi started to say, "It isn't so much a gift, more than it's a-"

"...But I didn't get you anything," Hoseok murmured a little forlornly now.

Yoongi's eyes grew wide. "It's not really a gift,” he blurted out, perhaps a bit more bluntly than intended because Hoseok's expression dimmed a little more. "Wait no, it is a gift, but not like that...I mean it's not just yours-"

"Oh?" the other asked.

“…”

Fuck.

With a resigned sigh, Yoongi shucked off the coat he'd been wearing the entire time. "Jesus Christ, this is what I meant," he mumbled. "It's not just a gift for you 'cause—”

Hoseok's jaw dropped in genuine surprise. "Ohmygod, Yoongi, you got us matching Christmas sweaters."

Yoongi pressed his lips together, shut his eyes, fought the urge to hang his head, because yes, he had bought them a pair of couple sweaters for Christmas.

The process of revealing it hadn't gone as smoothly as he'd planned, and came at the cost of abject mortification, but it was done.

Step one of his simple two-step plan was complete.

part 2, fin <3

Hoseok's smile was the brightest sun Yoongi had ever seen as he took in the matching red sweater Yoongi revealed beneath the coat. "You got us matching Christmas sweaters,” he said again, eyes twinkling.

Yoongi sucked in a slow breath and looked away for a moment.

"I...yeah," he admitted slowly. "I got us matching Christmas sweaters."

And then Hoseok snickered, compounding Yoongi's burning embarrassment.

Miffed, Yoongi said, "You don't have to wear it if you don't want to. I can take it back-"

"Oh, absolutely not, "Hoseok replied at once, yanking the sweater away when Yoongi made to reach for it. “This is mine, and you can't have it. In fact...” he slipped it on over the plain white t-shirt he had on and spoke as he did up the buttons, "You had the right idea earlier; we need to go into the city and show these off to everyone."

Yoongi frowned. Folded his arms across his chest. “First of all, I'd kill anyone who saw me dressed like this," he stated deadpan. "And secondly, you laughed; you think it's corny, don't you?"

Hoseok was still smiling, had never once stopped smiling. "First of all, I don't think it's corny at all; I think you're secretly a sappy romantic at heart-"

"I am not-!"

"And I love that about you," Hoseok continued, speaking over him, drawing him close to plant a kiss atop his forehead.

"Get fucked," Yoongi muttered feebly, earning yet another laugh from Hoseok.

With his smiling lips against Yoongi's forehead, Hoseok added, "And secondly, we are spending the entire day outside like this, and you're banned from killing any and everybody who might see us."

Yoongi swallowed once, drawing back enough to fix imploring eyes on him. "Hoseok-"

"Mhm, let's see, we'll have breakfast at a cafe on the way first, then we'll do some shopping- it's kind of last minute, but we should get gifts for everyone, right? — and then we'll take in the sights...the city's usually beautiful around this time of the year but I haven't stopped to take in the sights in a while. Should we go up to Namsan tower while we're at it?"

"...Seok-ah, "Yoongi pleaded, cutting him off.

Hoseok paused, those glittering eyes gentle and soft on him. "Alright, maybe we won't do all of that, but we are going out."

"Hoseok, I can't be seen like this," he protested weakly, following as Hoseok took him by the hand and led the way down the hall to the coat room. "Seokjin hyung really won't ever let me live this down-"

"Good idea, we should take polaroids and mail them out as Christmas cards," Hoseok said, a smile audible in his voice.

A strangled sound left Yoongi in surprise. "Wait, this wasn't-"

Wasn't what he planned at all.

Hoseok stopped before the coat room, whose door was slightly ajar.

A deliberate move.

This wasn't how Yoongi planned it at all, but the second step of his simple two-step plan was...

Hoseok pulled the door wider open slowly, first turning to Yoongi with an arched brow, then stepping inside. The lights flicked on, and he paused just past the threshold, eyes wide with surprise now as he stared at Yoongi with a dawning sense of realization.

"You planned to get me here all along, didn't you?"

Yoongi stood just on the other side of the threshold, glancing up when Hoseok did, at the mistletoe hanging over the doorway and dictating the space between them. "Well, my plan didn't include going out; you were supposed to return the coat I took off earlier, and then, ideally we'd kiss and spend the day fucking, but-"

The last thing he saw was Hoseok's smiling face before he found himself being tugged forward, crashing into Hoseok, lips finding each other at once.

They kissed, and warmth bloomed in Yoongi's chest, sprouting the tender blossoms of an affection that had taken root long ago.

He threw his arms across Hoseok's neck as the other's hands settled atop his hips, pressing him flush against Hoseok, as though they could be any closer than they already were. Teeth nipped at his lower lip, and Yoongi shivered in anticipation as warm fingers slipped past his sweater and grazed his flesh.

Step two of his simple two-step plan was complete.

Chuckling, Hoseok pulled back first, breaking the kiss, but staying close enough for his lips to keep brushing Yoongi's. "Merry Christmas, love," he breathed out. "Thank you for doing all of this."

Yoongi let out a hum in return. "Merry Christmas," he said. "Can we have sex now?"

Hoseok snorted once. "We were supposed to go out. I came here to get my coat."

"Don't want to," Yoongi let out, trying to distract Hoseok by going in for another kiss.

Undeterred, Hoseok said, "Well, I want to.'

He allowed Yoongi to kiss him briefly.

"But, I could be convinced otherwise if you agree that the sweater stays on while we make love."

Yoongi baulked. "Fine, get your coat, we'll go out-"

"Wrong answer," Hoseok hummed, tugging him further into the coat room.

"Hoseok, wait_"

The door shut behind them, and so began their Christmas eve. It would be a long day, and though things hadn't gone completely accordingly to his plan, Yoongi did get everything he wanted that day:

Hoseok, all to himself.
