Reading Mark Twain’s posthumously published novella “The Mysterious Stranger,” which according to Paul Levitz’s history of DC Comics was the inspiration for The Phantom Stranger. I’m now pretty sure Alan Moore read this too before writing his Phantom Stranger origin story.
