new hockey manga started in Jump today

Well this is a thing. Hockey sports manga about a girl (Kurumi) who's basically...idk, Tomo from Azumanga Daioh was my immediate reference point. As a first chapter this is pretty decent and I like that our main girl is A) stupid and B) thinks it's awesome when she absolutely eats ice in the first chapter here. Overall this seems like a relatively straightforward sports series so far, which is curious to me only because this is the Ankoku Delta manga. That manga had one really obvious big influence, but it was a notably weird one (Dorohedoro), so to see Arupa pivot to something that seems this simple is a bit surprising.

...There is the detail that she breaks up with her boyfriend in the literal first page of the manga and then the 'hot guy' she meets at the ice rink turns out to be a girl. Obviously I'd love it if we did some kind of Yuri Rivals thing here, but this is a Shonen Jump manga so I am keeping my expectations firmly in check. Even so, being from Arupa is going to keep me coming back for at least a little while, and as mentioned I do like Kurumi's latent bloodpervert tendencies.

Kurumi with a bloodied nose and a blissful expression on her face. "Feels great...." she says, seemingly in all sincerity.

The comical shock face and broken heart emoji when she finds out that the guy teaching her to play hockey is a girl is...less great, but I admit that could be a juke. We'll see, I suppose.

At any rate, it certainly has more character than god damn Pride of Orange, the only other hockey-related thing in anime/manga I've actually engaged with. (Which apologies to Red Dogs, also a manga, which is apparently good.) Even if I never particularly start loving it, I'm sure there's some hockey-playing tomboy out there for whom this manga would mean the world. For that person's sake, I hope she finds out about this and I hope it runs for a good while.
