I did one time interview Gregory Hinde via email, how ever he and Drew did share gear when scoring Billy and Mandy. The sound palette is consistent because of it. He did mentioned a couple of synthesizers he used in Billy and Mandy to me, his website has more info too. I share a screencap of it.

Gregory Hinde: The analog synths were, and still are Moog, Waldorf, Roland, Vermona, Studio Electronics, and M3X MacBeth. The rest of the synths are the simulated analog synthesizers such as the Access Virus A, B & C, Nord. The orchestral library was either outboard gear such as Akai, Roland, Emu and computer-based library...pre Kontakt which is what I use now.

I have some interactions with Drew Neumman, he does in fact share similar gear with Gregory Hinde. Drew did use a Yamaha CS80 for a few episodes of Billy and Mandy. The Same synth used in Dr Who and Blade Runner. Also other romplers and samplers, other analogs in his studio. Which I'll show here.

Synths—well, it was a pretty good pile of things for both series, with some overlap. Billy & Mandy was nearly a decade later and I was trying out a lot of new machines.

There is a fairly complete instrument list in the original Eye Spy release. I had a lot more for Billy & Mandy including large modular synths. I even had a CS80 in a few episodes, but I didn’t like the way it fit into the music. I did use vintage Arps, Moogs, and Oberheims as well as a bunch of Waldorf and Ensoniq gear on both series.

Are you a synthesist yourself?

Drew

Kurzweil—K2000 on Aeon Flux, and I switched to a 2600r during Wild Thornberrys.

Yes, Wendy Carlos has been a huge influence to me. I pretty much wore out the TEMPI vinyl of Clockwork Orange listening to it over and over again. I really love Tomita’s work too.

Thankfully there is accurate Access Virus VSTs that you can get for free, which were done using the emulated respective soundchip and hardware for research. Drew does have a lot of analog, which will be difficult to figure out. I imagine he tend to mix them together to create that sound.
