there's a lifelong financial tax on existing in public spaces too - ride hailing instead of cheaper public transport, restricted mobility, changing jobs or churches or colleges for safety, legal fees, dammit just mace or needing to be anonymous online so no LinkedIn opps etc.

Heh I was just thinking today that I didn’t want to take a Lyft home alone from the mechanic where I left my car and was grateful for a bus that would have other people in it So many calculations, all the time

Just for future knowledge, did you know that you can select "only women" drivers on the Lyft app? It's handy.

I sit on a licensing committee for bars, taxi drivers etc. When we were doing the training the men in charge explained they gave drivers a couple of chances if there was a complaint from a young woman because it was usually only “you’re pretty, have you got a boyfriend”. In a moving vehicle! 🤦‍♀️

Yes, at night where I live, neither are considered safe for a woman alone. So it's buy a car or stay home at night. Or, just risk it but send a location pin to someone who can watch over your return.
