The article says the DWP has an overall capacity of 91 billion gallons of water. This reservoir holds 117 million gallons. It would have helped but clearly isn't a huge impact. Disingenuous articles like this breed conspiracy theories. They want you to think turning this off was significant.

I implore everyone to read the full article. It explains why you still would have had issues re-filling storage tanks, why the reservoir was empty, and how the municipal water system is simply not designed to handle wildland fires of this scale.

@iaffcanada.bsky.social @iaffofficial.bsky.social @cpsc.gov www.nbcnews.com/business/aut... Any data on number of EV batteries? When one catches fire, a massive amount of water is needed to extinguish. Risk to fire fighters multiplied, exponential risk to communities. Ways to lower risk? 😭😭

How might this have stopped 100 mph winds? Water wasn’t even very effective at the beginning because it blew away. Safeway was also low on water.

"Whether the reservoir would have had a meaningful effect on fighting a blaze of such intensity remains unclear. Researchers said urban water systems like DWP’s were not designed to fight wildfires that overtake whole neighborhoods. "
