Plant BioGene Cluster? Papers show 1. Promoters can be moved out of them and work just fine so local not essential. 2. +/- variation of enzymes in them so recombination linkage not essential. Is there a solid idea of why clusters exist when non-clustered paths do just fine? #secmet #plantbiology

I always thought it may just be to do with chromatin states. Easier/perhaps quicker to change chromatin state on one area to help express or downregulate a pathway in response to different stimuli.

The early work showed the promoters for individual genes in a cluster can be moved to another species and work just fine. So unsure if local chromatin is really supported as important.
