## Some art needs **a passerby** to finish it.
A man leans in close to a marble statue. Another shows his phone to a bronze one. Nobody planned these photos, but the art was ready for them, and so were a cat on a real chain and a road waiting to be cut open.

### 🤫 Whispered Secrets
The statue’s hand is raised to her cheek, close to her mouth. All it took was someone willing to lean in and listen. His half-open mouth suggests it was worth hearing.

### 🐾 Cat on the Chain — By JPS
Someone fixed a rusty chain to this wall for a practical reason. JPS saw a tightrope. His stenciled cat walks down it with its tail up, as calm as any real cat on a fence.
💡 **Artist Fact:** When Colossal featured JPS in 2014, it described the UK stencil artist’s work as mostly inspired by pop culture, horror films and comic book heroes.

### 🐈 Watch Out for Jumping Cats — Kitakami, Japan 🇯🇵
The Japanese text warns drivers that cats may dart out. The three flying silhouettes suggest a much bigger problem. Spotted beside a road in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture.
💡 **Japan Fact:** Japan’s best-known warning figure is a person, not a cat. Shiga Prefecture says the child-shaped tobidashi-bōya signs started in Higashiōmi and are now found all over the country.

### ✂️ Cutting the Road — By Roadsworth
The dashed lines were already there. Roadsworth only added a pair of painted scissors, and now the street looks like a sheet of paper halfway through a craft project.
💡 **Artist Fact:** Roadsworth is Peter Gibson. Art Public Montréal says he began painting Montreal’s streets in 2001, first prompted by the lack of bike lanes and the city’s car culture.

### 📱 Scroll Buddy
The bronze man on the bench has spent years looking down at his lap. Someone finally gave him something to look at, and now he seems to be reading along.

### 🪨 Painted Cat Rocks
From a distance, it’s a pile of rocks. Look again and six of them have ears, whiskers and eyes, curled up together like cats napping in the sun.

### 💐 Best Friends
An elephant leans out from behind a rusty beam and offers red flowers to a rat about the size of its toenail. The beam suggests it was hiding there for a while, working up the courage.

### 😴 Pipe Break — By Ibon Mainar in San Sebastián, Spain 🇪🇸
A pipe sticks out of the wall for no clear reason. Ibon Mainar gave it one: a tiny painted man lying on top of it, arms and legs hanging, taking a break from whatever he was supposed to be doing.
