I have a new article out! Hope you all enjoy it! In it, I argue that there are strong reasons to suspect that when John's Jesus refers to a "last day," he refers not to a future judgment but to the (realized) time when the Spirit comes. John subtly reinterprets the phrase. doi.org/10.1093/jts/...

Thanks for it! Is the "either/or" argument really necessary? Some aspects are indeed realized eschatology. But there is also future eschatology - as you confirm (p. 2). For not everything is yet realized in the Spirit. This is also valuable in view of the judgement.

Thanks Michael! I don't really confirm it on p. 2. I make the point that much of what gets confidently called "future esch." is ambiguous (see my earlier JBL article on John 5:28–29). That's my argument here too. I suspect John has a completely realized outlook. "Now is the judgment."
