It's the racism. People bristle at that fact but it's been true since day 1 of Trump, and if we're honest, support for pretty much any conservative ideology has been inseparable from racism for...ever? It may cloak in tax policy and morality on occasion out of convenience, but it's core is racism.

Just finishing an interesting read by Marc Dunkelman, “Why Nothing Works.” Traces the Hamiltonian vs Jeffersonian political philosophies and how both progressive and conservative admins have used, or over-used, both. Also: Racism, conscious or no, is a thread through both parties’ histories.
