Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan @london.gov.uk · 12/01/2026

The number of homicides of young people in London continues to fall. When I set up the Violence Reduction Unit in 2019, the capital’s homicide rate of under-25s was three times higher than it is today.

Graphic showing a line chart with the headline text “HOMICIDES OF YOUNG PEOPLE AT LOWEST LEVELS THIS CENTURY”.
Subheading text reads: “Targeted work to tackle violence affecting young people led by the Violence Reduction Unit has contributed to under-25 homicides falling to a historic low.”
The chart shows yearly data from 1997 to 2025 on the horizontal axis and numbers from 0 to 80 on the vertical axis, with a blue line fluctuating over time and dropping sharply by 2025.
Large text across the chart reads: “60.9% LOWER THAN 1997”.
Source text at the bottom reads: “Source: MPS recorded homicide data for period 1st January to 31st December, 1997 to 2025.”
