I welcome Angela Rayner’s amendment to the Renters' Rights Bill to cap unjust upfront rent payments. Ending this outrageous practice would be a huge step forward for London’s private renters, easing the financial burden of finding a new home.

Great! My question is if this also will ban renters from offering to pay large upfront sums—as one example, last year I lost out on a rental property because another renter «offered to pay 12 months upfront», even though such payment was not a stated requirement.

Agree, there are many practices whereby Tenants are not protected. Next Step: Creating a 'UK Bank' which funds 100% mortgages for house purchases. If you can afford rent, you can afford a mortgage. This will ensure a 2nd term in Office as well as alleviating the housing crisis.

What about the outrageous rents? I have no idea how anyone can afford rents or house prices in London and the south east.
